I'm embarrassed but.....how do AO plate benders work? How do you hold the plate in those slotted benders? What resource might you recommend for visualization of this technique? Thanks.

the plate is inserted into each slot of the benders at the appropriate spotonthe plate.
forinstance, you want to bend a plate in a certain location, thenplace the bender just to the side of where you want to bend, place the other bender at another locationon the plateand bend. ask the rep or the surgery tech. Thesougery techshould know how to use the equipment

  3. The plate is placed into the slot of the bender at the location of the plate where you desire the plate to be bent. Then while stablizing the free end of the plate with one hand, the other hand is used to angle the bender relative to the plate until the slot of the bender starts to "grab" the plate so that further angular rotation of the bender will cause the plate to bend at the desired location in the plate. This procedure can be repeated numerous times along the plate so that the plate can be custom-fit to the external contours of the osseous structure that the surgeon desires to fixate. This process is actually much simpler to demonstrate than it is to describe. It is no different than using a set of pliers to accomplish the same task on a thin metal plate, except the plate benders are much less bulky and lighter tools to accomplish the same task.
