Seems to be some new guidelines for prophylaxis in foot and ankle surgery.
I'd like to know what some of your routines are; what cases you use antibiotics in, what drug, how much and when.

    Thanks

Hi, I work for the NHS. Does anyone use prophylactic antibiotics prior to nail surgery and if so, which and under what circumstances? Thanks

1 hour prior to nail surgery on Dialysis patients 1000mg Vancomycin was administered IV. But I stress that was standard before I retired 4 years ago. Further, as my pts were limb threatened and had infected nail pathologies appropriate antibiotic cover was used taking into account the patients weight and renal function/dysfunction.
