    Hi

I am due to see a 70 yr old lady who has a number of postural problems but also has a 17 year history of RSD in the ankle. Be interested in hearing from anyone who has dealt with this before. Also interested if anyone has used orthoses in this kind of instance before.

    thanks
    Ian

    Hi Ian

There is a place in Bristol that specifically deals with RSD/CRPS. He had RSD for several years and with treatment he is now pain free. If you want any further details let me know

Hi slaveboy (makes me feel slightly kinky calling you that!!)

Thanks for the post and the details would be most welcome. I am seeing the pt next Friday.

By now,you have probably seen this patient. You should be aware that it would be extremely unlikely for this to be CRPS I, as the natural history of this condition is that, while it might initially begin at an ankle, it will not stay limited to the ankle for very long. It will spread to the entire leg, and sometimes to the mirror image leg. Seventeen years limited to the ankle means the diagnosis is probably not correct. Instead, think neuropathic pain from a nerve injury, myofascial pain with appropriate referral patterns, or entrapment neuropathy (secondary to tight muscle(s) due to myofascial trigger points on those muscles). Any one of these could give you a clinical picture that appears to be CRPS, but isn't.
