We are coming up on the warmer months of spring, summer and early fall here in the Northern Hemisphere and things are already starting to heat up. It will be highs in the 80's (26-29 degrees Celsius) all week in Sacramento and the sandals are already being pulled out of the closets and being worn on a daily basis.

I often recommend that my female patients who like to wear sandals try to wear sandals that have some form of arch support to prevent foot injuries and give better comfort. I thought it might be nice to show a few examples of ones I often recommend and to hear what sandals other podiatrists recommend.

One of the newer lines of sandals I like are the Vitality sandals made by Place Footwear. My wife is currently wearing a few of these sandals, the "Ibiza Black" is pictured below. They have a very nice and comfortable arch which will likely suit many foot shapes.

Another sandal I recommend is the Vionic Orthaheel with one of the models displayed below also. Good arch support and women seem to like it.

FitFlop also makes a nice looking sandal which is little heavier and thicker soled, which my female patients also seem to like. The Flora model is pictured below.

Crocs also makes a number of sandals which are cheaper in price and with a lower arch profile that some prefer. The CrocBand model is pictured below.

Of course, whether these "Comfort Sandals" are comfortable or not will be dependent on the individual, their arch shape and their preferences. At least these sandals offer women more stylish options for the warmer months, while still having a shoe that does provide some arch supporting function also.

Anyone else have a favorite brand? Photos please!

Spenco Total Support flip-flops, sandals, and shoes have a deep heel cup, a medial and lateral arch support, a metatarsal dome and a nice cushioned forefoot. Lots of styles to choose from. For photos click HERE.
