First post for me.
I have a patient with severe bromidrosis. The planter of both feet are white,mascerated. He has tried potassium permanganate footbaths and surgical spirit rubs but no effect. I've also advised re footwear and socks.
The patient is getting quite desperate now so any help would be much appreciated. I'm sure i've read about surgery to remove sweat glands, am i wrong on that . It does seem an extreme measure but the patients condition is severe. GP did'nt offer any further suggestions.

Try iontophoresis or get him in for botox injections.

No guarantee but I have had some success with CCS foot spray, cheap and readily available in the UK.

The procedure you refer to is a sympathectomy, cutting the nerve at the spinal cord. Do his hands also sweat?

 

Socks and Bromidrosis

What about "COOLMAX" socks? These are polypropylene and wick moisture away from the foot to the outer sock or shoe. I recommended some to a patient 2 weeks ago and although I haven't seen him again yet his wife told me that the socks are working well. When he takes off his footwear at the end of the day the outer socks are soaked but his inner sock(the polyprop. next to his skin) is dry as are his feet.
Worth a try.

Have you considered pitted keratolysis? It requires antibiotic therapy

 

Sikoped Insoles (available from Canonbury).
Work well, quickly, and cheap.

 

Aluminium Chloride

20% Aluminium Chloride solution (like Driclor) seems to work well.
