Sharp pain in 3rd toe, Right foot only - feels like a pin stabbing the toe during and immediately after sport, no pain during other activities and normal weight bearing. No outward signs of inflammation - toe appears 'normal' in every respect. Palpation reveals no abnormalities and is pain free, joint ROM is normal, overriding 2nd toe and slightly long 3rd metatarsal. Pain can be illicited through active flexion/extension of toes but not on passive. Footwear is appropriate for sport and pain is the same in different shoes. No history of trauma, sudden onset ongoing for a few months and increasing in intensity. X-ray has been requested. Any ideas
