Stroke victim Gladys can't have NHS foot treatment

FOR elderly couple Dennis and Gladys Quintin-Archard, their declining health has turned the job of looking after their feet into a major challenge.

After three hip operations to combat arthritis, Mrs Quintin-Archard suffered a second stroke two weeks ago.

She is now recovering at home with her husband Dennis. He also has difficulty bending down, hampered by the metal stays around his back that support a fractured vertebra.

Until last month, the couple, both aged 87, received foot care from an NHS podiatry service operated by East Elmbridge and Mid Surrey Primary Care Trust (PCT).

But in a controversial move to save money, the trust has taken the scissors to the podia-try service register, trimming 3,000 patients off the list who are not considered to have a high medical need.
