The Arizona State Board of Podiatry Examiners Expands Scope of Practice to Include Amputation
Phoenix, Arizona – The Arizona State Board of Podiatry Examiners (“Board”) is excited to announce that its scope of practice has increased to allow for amputation. The Board’s mission remains the same and they will continue to serve the public by protecting the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Arizona by regulating and maintaining standards of practice in the field of podiatric medicine. The 53rd Legislature passed Senate Bill 1235 on March 21, 2017 and it was subsequently signed by Governor Douglas A. Ducey on March 27, 2017. As with most laws, this law takes effect on August 8, 2017, and therefore, will allow for a podiatrist to perform some amputations, but it will not include amputations of the leg or the entire foot.
