Do any of my fellow Pods had any feedback on Toad Anti gravity Brace?? It appears to be an excellent device for CMT or diabetic ulcer offloading.

  3. Earlier this year our clinic tried TOAD braces for 2 patients, each with Charcot feet with plantar ulceration, after trying multiple other offloading methods. Unfortunately neither was successful. We had difficulty with fitting due to volume changes in the limbs, achieving adequate suspension and some issues with fastenings on the device. It was a disappointing (and expensive) exercise as the concept seemed promising, and when David Armstrong was here last year he was very positive about the devices.

It is difficult to establish exactly why we had so many problems, though I feel that it is not a device/process that can be done remotely as we did (cast done here, sent to company, device sent back for us to fit). The problem solving process was protracted and not entirely successful. Outcomes possibly quite different if orthotist directly involved in process and dealing directly with patient. Also, both of the individuals we tried them with had considerable deformity which seemed to be an issue. The fact that the fitting process was pure guesswork on our part, despite 'long distance direction' from the manufacturer was also difficult.

Sorry I can't be more positive. I would also be interested in others' experiences.
