Who was telling that minimalism was dead?

Motion control running shoes went up too. Looks like the people getting hurt in the minimalist shoes are reverting back to what works.

What are motion control running shoes?

    Dana

  5. May not be dead since the sales were up last year, but they still only account for 8% of running shoe sales overall. More manufacturers introduced "minimalist" shoes last year too. So while the sales were up, the market share is, well, minimal. Will be interesting to monitor this year on year.

  6. What is an IBM employee?

Where do trail shoes fit into this? It's hard to draw any conclusions without having the categories defined. Has the definition of the categories changed and will it change going forward. What about the categories that aren't even recognized by some of the major shoe companies? It also helps to have the absolute numbers. A 100% increase of a category that only sold one pair the prior year means they sold 2 pairs the next year.

A person who works in an industry that has innovative thought and continually progresses forward with invention.

  9. Really? Even the person that makes the coffee? I guess most of the people designing running shoes are attempting to do the same, but the person who sweeps up the factory floor wearing a pair of the running shoes manufactured in their factory knows nothing of this, despite the fact that they are wearing the shoes.

Let's take your example the ASICS Kinsei 4: can you tell me the results of the biomechanical testing carried out on this shoe by ASICS? Can you tell me the results of the wearer trials carried out on this shoe by ASICS? The answer is no. So why should anyone here listen to you, an employee of IBM who runs in their spare time, with regard to the technicalities of running shoe design when we have people here who actually do it for a living?

I've earned enough money doing what I do to retire at your age, what is your excuse?

  11. Lol... So you don't work for IBM anymore?

A fool who laughs at what he doesn't know is well, just a fool.

When a person debates with a fool, observers can't determine who the fool is. I'll leave this exchange in order to leave no doubt.

  14. Reality check: you Dana Roueche are an elderly amateur runner, you have no expertise in running biomechanics nor running shoe design. End of Story. You are not a podiatrists nor any other kind of foot health professional, viz. you have no place here. I, on the other hand, have a PhD in podiatry, 25 years of clinical experience, a publication record in podiatric biomechanics and I'm invited to speak globally on the subject. Hmmm. Who's the fool here- I just cant' tell. But I can tell you that if you continue in your current vein of labelling me and my colleagues as "pathetic", "idiotic" and "fools", somebody might just take exception to that.

    Memorable Quotes
Joey Naylor (his son): ...so what happens when you're wrong?
Nick Naylor (the father lobbyist): Whoa, Joey I'm never wrong.
Joey Naylor: But you can't always be right...
Nick Naylor: Well, if it's your job to be right, then you're never wrong.
Joey Naylor: But what if you are wrong?
Nick Naylor: OK, let's say that you're defending chocolate, and I'm defending vanilla. Now if I were to say to you: 'Vanilla is the best flavor ice-cream', you'd say...
    Joey Naylor: No, chocolate is.
Nick Naylor: Exactly, but you can't win that argument... so, I'll ask you: so you think chocolate is the end all and the all of ice cream, do you?
Joey Naylor: It's the best ice cream, I wouldn't order any other.
Nick Naylor: Oh! So it's all chocolate for you is it?
Joey Naylor: Yes, chocolate is all I need.
Nick Naylor: Well, I need more than chocolate, and for that matter I need more than vanilla. I believe that we need freedom. And choice when it comes to our ice cream, and that Joey Naylor, that is the definition of liberty.
Joey Naylor: But that's not what we're talking about
Nick Naylor: Ah! But that's what I'm talking about.
Joey Naylor: ...but you didn't prove that vanilla was the best...
Nick Naylor: I didn't have to. I proved that you're wrong, and if you're wrong I'm right.
Joey Naylor: But you still didn't convince me
Nick Naylor: It's that… I'm not after you. I'm after them (all people around)

Caution, you might even recognize pseudo-scientific lobbyists from a number of running shoe companies, but this would only be an unfortunate coincidence, wouldn’t it?

I think this is more relevent...

Kid #3: My Mommy says smoking kills.
Nick Naylor: Oh, is your Mommy a doctor?
    Kid #3: No.
Nick Naylor: A scientific researcher of some kind?
    Kid #3: No.
Nick Naylor: Well, then she's hardly a credible expert, is she?

...what's happen when the doctor works for the Tobacco company... Is he trustable?

  18. Blaise:

The proper English word is "trustworthy", not "trustable".:drinks

  19. What happen's when he doesn't work for a tobacco company?

  20. Blaise Dubois Active Member

If he have no financial interest relative to tobacco company he is for sure more trustworthy... less risk of bias! (But some will still think that smoking don't kills... And some (rarely) working for company can think that smoking kills... )
