I am looking for some advice...

I am moving to Melbourne from the UK later on this year and have been given an offer of employment. The work is predominantly biomechanics but will still involve all aspects of Podiatry. I have 4-5 years experience in both the NHS and private practice.

I don't want to be ripped off and I feel that the salary I have been offered is quite low. If anyone can offer any guidance I would really appreciate it!

For a Pod with 4-5 yrs experience working in the Public System, the salary would be between $60 and $70K plus salary packaging benefits of $7-$14K and 9% superanuation (varies between states and grading). Generally the amounts paid in private practice, including incentives will at least equal this.

This happened to me when I first moved over here. What type of visa are you coming over on. When I first moved over I was on a 457 and the min salary they had to pay was 45k aus dollars. I thought this was a great salary and then relised it was the minimum they had to pay you on this type of visa. Once I had been here a few weeks and spoke to others I realised I was being taken advantage off. Generally if you are working in private practice you should keep 40% of your earnings. In the public sector you would also be looking at similar figures to what Simon says above. Just be careful about the private sector there are alot of cowboys out there - I had an alwful expereince. I now work in the public and would only ever go back into private if I was working for myself. Good luck with the move! I am sure you will love it here most people do!
