I was looking at Gary Denby's website, including his charges! What do others think?

I personally admire him for charging £35 for a 30 mins appt. Should we all be charging this amount for our skills and professioanalism? obviously depends on where in the country one lives.

Our clinic is just down the road from Gary's - see www.healthfirstsoutham.co.uk
We charge up to £40 for a 20 minute routine appointment. New patients incur an extra £20 - £60 depending on assessments required for a 10 minute longer appointment.
Personally, I think the whole profession (and AHPs in general) undervalues themselves. We should be aiming our sights on the specialists in the medical profession e.g. Consultants, not comparing to the underqualified like FHPs. After overheads, my net profit is no more than my City & Guilds qualified builder gets who is building our extension. That makes no sense!

Charge what you feel your worth and make no apologies for it.
If for extreme example you double your charges and loose half of your clients then you will have the same turnover and more time to give to those patients and yourself.
I suggest you consider Tyson Franklins book on Podiatry Business or similar books on business.
Another option is Paul Wright in Australia. He's a ex physio who gives mentorship on running a health clinic profitably.

I dont necessarily agree with everything he says but he gives some food for thought.

I practice and live in Oxford, which is an expensive city, and have been in a central one chair, well equipped practice since 1981. I have a good reputation and thousands of patients on my books.
Before Dr Scholl was taken over by Shuropody , their fee was around £38 to our £45 per half hour. Shuropody dropped the fee to around £32. At the same time, a male colleague who charged £60 per hours appt (he was slow)retired. That left our £45 fee way ahead. For about five years we have had a frozen fee.I recently dropped to working two days a week, and have two younger colleagues using the practice on the other days.
As I was over-booked, I took a leap of faith and raised my fee to £55 per half hour, and £40 per 15mins.
Most patients said that it was worth every penny and continue to see me. Those that prefer the lower £45, £30 fee can see my younger colleagues.
So, as I approach retirement, I am earning a better salary, commensurate with my experience.
As my 27 year old son charges £50 for a haircut, I sleep soundly in my bed!
We should not underestimate our worth and skills.
