Having previously lived in Austrailia for a year on a working visa and loved every minuate i decided to go back into education to gain qualifications to try and emigrate.

after a year at college gaining qualifications, i applied to and was accepted by Glasgow Caledonian University to do Podiatry.

im now going into my 4th year at university at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. i would love to emigrate to Austrailia and practice Podiatry, but dont really know how to go about it.

i was wondering if anyone has done what i intend to do and could help with information or could tell me about their experiences, good and bad.

The first thing to do is to apply and get your skills assessed. It is somewhere in victoria, but it is on the apodc website. That takes the longest. I came out 5 months ago and worried about doing the exam but I did not have to. The whole process does not take too long, but my main recommendation is get your skills assessed and keep the piece of paper with your exam results on it as you need this for every year. Registry will keep a copy and you can get them for a small fee, I think it was a tenner.

If you can get a sponser then that is the best way and cheapest!!! If you do it that way the visa can be done online (but get medicals marked for permanent, just incase like me you decide to stay and have to get everything redone). There are loads of Podiatry jobs esp in the county regions.

Don't panic about the exam, I didnt have to do it and neither have a few friends, I think it is more for those that did the diploma and from countries that may not have the same standard of practice.

Then you need to get registered, but it appears you need to register for every state you work in. So decide where you can and want to work and then register, the boards for the WA one only meet every 2 months which can also hold up the process but you need the qualifications assessed before you can do anything!!
