This Xmas was my first as a podiatrist. All of my patients are wonderful (except for a select few in the public sector  ) and I find that they do appreciate the care and service that I provide them, especially once the festive season started.

This Xmas I have been showered with gifts from my patients, wine, chocolate, lots of talc powder :), perfume, xmas stocktings etc ...

I am sure I am not the only pod to receive pressies from patients at Xmas time, but their generosity has left me with a warm fuzzy feeling this Xmas.

One of the presents was a little teddy in a ballet dress (I can not spell tutu). What unusual gifts have you been given?

    Cheers
    :santa:

    Hi Stirling

It's a bit sweet how they give presents, one that stands out in my mind is getting a panettone from an Italian lady, I suppose it was because I had not heard of it before that.

I still have some Christmas cards given to me from years back.
It's amazing to read them because after a multitude of patients seen, these patients bounce right back into my memory.

  4. I do get a steady supply of home made wine and spirits. You'll never want for a clean spoon in my house!

That is the funniest thing I have seen for ages! That patient must have a sense of humour!

On Christmas Eve, as I reached into my kitchen cupboard to pull out the food processor in order to make easy work of the chestnut stuffing I had a fond smile at two bottles of dry sherry. Not what you think....

Every Christmas time since about 1991 we have received bottles of dry sherry from a very appreciative palliative care patient. None of us drink dry sherry but it is most useful in cooking.

Sadly Mrs T passed away earlier this year so no more sherry but fond memories of a really sweet lady as I viewed the two bottles still waiting to be used. Ironically I am led to believe the store she used to deliver all her Christmas bottles went into liquidation this Autumn.

Not an unusual gift but like another poster indicated, happy memories. This is what makes my job so worthwhile; the personalities and characters that pass through my wee business year in year out, not the politics that bog down the UK Podiatry profession.

So raise a glass to the enjoyment this profession brings and God bless our patients.

Happy New Year to you all.

Hi re Christmas presents; Every year I get a sack of spuds and a bunch of carrots from a patient who is a local farmer and another who makes organic apple juice gives me a box of apples; I also get numerous jars of mince meat and chutney and home made cakes and mince pies all of which I don't like but saves me making my own. But the best present came a few years ago - a trailer full of horse manure for my garden from a happy patient who runs a local riding stables. It is nice to be thought of .....
