“ You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world. ”
    — O'Brien

Hmmm...sounds like room 101 has a few stories to tell. Murphies Law, I get it! Hope your foot gets better.:butcher:

Booked, but I won't be there until after 8 30. Can someone save me a seat?

Gonna rest my pecs(Moobs) now in anticipation of the bench off!

  4. I made it to Philadelphia and am waiting for our flight to Manchester to board in about an hour. Should be arriving in Manchester at about 9 AM barring no volcanos erupt along the way. Looking forward to a great seminar!

  5. Made it here to the Hilton Manchester. Nice hotel! Just waiting for everyone else to show up so we can start talking about feet for a few days.:drinks

    I guess that's a podiatry thing?

I can recommend a decent tapas place directly across the road from the front entrance of the Hilton. It's called Dimitri's. You can see it from the front door of the Hilton. Best place to eat around there. Order 3 tapas - but ask for lamb chops as one dish (it's not on the menu, but they'll make it for you). For beers afterwards, I'd recommend Cask on Liverpool Road (the street across and slightly left as you look from the front door of the Hilton). It's on the left on that street about 100m away from your hotel - if you get to the science and industry museum, you've gone too far (Manchester music from 1980's and 90's on the jukebox too). They do a few European beers. Then head to the Knott bar (directly left from the Hilton entrance, under the bridge and it's across the road under the railway - bypass the Deansgate Tavern, it's terrible) for a few more local and European beers. I could go on all night with tips on places to eat and drink around there (all within walking distance of the Hilton). Forget Cloud 23 in your hotel.

    Enjoy Manchester :)

  7. Went for a nice run this morning. Weather is a bit cloudy with hints that it may rain later but the hotel is great. Breakfast in the hotel was good and we will be walking down the street to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry this morning for a visit. Looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow.

My impression so far on my first visit to Manchester....I like it!

If you head towards the Science and Industry Museum from the Hilton, behind the Ox pub on the left is Castlefields. There's an old Roman ruin there to have a walk around and a decent pub called Dukes 92 (ask for directions, but it's under the viaduct and across the canal from the Roman ruin). The food in Dukes is OK, pizzas are a safe bet. If its nice weather (in Manchester that means grey without rain) it's quite nice to sit outside, and there is a balcony that's accessable in Dukes - just ask at the main bar.

I'm just sitting in the Virgin lounge at London Euston watching a bit of Wimbledon (and abusing the free food+drink) while I wait for my travelling buddies. Don't drink the bar dry tonight before we get there!

Have arrived and checked in at Jury's Inn. If anyone has plans for eating somewhere tonight or getting together for a drink i'm interested.

  18. Here are some photos from yesterday here at Manchester Biomechanics Summer School. The tall building is the Manchester Hilton Deansgate where the conference is being held. Also, here's a few photos of Simon and Craig along with Craig and Mimi's children, Stephanie and Monica. Great fun!

The twins look quite relaxed considering they're being held at height by a bloke with a mad look in his eyes ;)
