Autoclaving: archived records

    Is there a set ruling to the number of years archived records must be kept for autoclaving small surgical tools ?

    If not what is accepted practice?

    Good question Toeslayer, my 11 years worth are taking up a lot of cupboard space.

    Depends on the state u live/work im.
    Queensland is 7 years (ster. printouts & validation reports & repair records)
    WA ?. Maybe ring ibes & ask branko. he would know wa rules. otherwise ask a steriluzing trainer like lin lochead or marj jennings.

    (tas used to be 8 from long ago memory, nsw 5 ?)

    Another thought for people. If you have a thermal printer , make sure you DONT use Eftpos paper / Hicaps paper. Eftpos lasts 1 year, good paper 5 years ('coated thermal'). For records needed for 7 years, then this is also cutting it fine. You can get a "top-coated-thermal" (like the paper lottery tickets get printed on, that has a 10 year life for the printed image. Cost is about $4 a roll, compared to $ 2 a roll for t.c & $0.50 for eftpos.
    (Eftpos paper will almost certainly void the warranty on your printer mechanism too........)
