i am a resident of a three year program. my program is attempting to place a formal syllabus in writing. i thought traditionally the R1 did med rotations, clinics, and forefoot sx; R2 did clinics, forefoot and rearfoot sx: and R3 did advanced cases/sx and research. no one can seem to agree! R1's want to jump into ankle trauma/recon and R3's don't want to share anything "good". what you think? do you have any syllabus from your residencies? any ideas? your help will be very appreciated!

I dont have any experience with this because I am a second year student at Des Moines University. However, there are many programs that present here. From what I have seen, it varies by program. The North Shores program in Michigan was just here and described their curriculum equal to what you wrote. I think that from what I have seen, most programs operate the way you described. But I have also seen many variations.

Your expectations are correct. Where is your director -he /she is the one to lay down the law here and put it in print.
