    Hi Everyone

Im in need of some help...Im looking for literture on ABPI in podiatric clinical practice for my honors dissertation. My study is on the use of ABPI in podiatric clinical practice in South Africa. Ive been searching university library databases and have come up with nothing. Even JAPMA has nothing with podiatry and ABPI.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

    Thanks very much!

    Hi Lauren,

I'd say the search field was a bit narrow. Does ABPI plus the words diabetes or vascular disease throw up any hits?

    Hi

Only in clinical medicine and vascular surgery, nothing in podiatry.

  4. Why do you need Podiatry.

If it has been discussed by one medicial group then it fits in Podiatry as well.

Most of the journal papers I read are not written by Podiatrists but the concepts change my practice

I guess im trying to find a link between ABPI and podiatry, the importance of it in podiatric clinical practice and why it should be used.

Like others I am concered that you are only searching for podiatry literature - like lots of what we do as clinicians the ABPI research was not done by podiatrists. I can however direct you to a MSc thesis held at Cardiff University's library - was submitted by Janet Tweedie / Janet Close- Tweedie - unsure of the title but she looked at how podiatrists conducted ABPI's.
Hope this helps, but my real advice would be to speak to who ever is supervising your thesis as I suspect you are going to struggle using your current search terms.
    Besy wishes

better off researching mims pods would not use abpi much . The abpi is a trade association producing prescription medicines . No prescription meds are invented for the use soley for podiatrists as we could not generate enough sales to cover the cost of developing a new drug approx cost 200 300 million pounds. So i think this is a very narrow area of study for you good luck with it.

    Hi lauren

Did you try to get in touch with La trobe university? and get in touch with vascular specialists?

Ps- I am a South African practising in New Zealand and wanted know if hospitals are employing pods? What are the job prospects for pods

  14. Not really, it goes to show that acronyms and abbreviations have different meanings to different people. This is why they should be defined in full in the first instance.

Out of curiosity I went to pub med and typed in Ankle brachial index and got 2925 articles. I then typed in ankle bracial pulse index and got 606 articles. I knew the measure as ABI and not ABPI which is a more precise name. I didn't take the time to look to see if those extra articles were relevant, but might be worth a look.
