I have a new pt 60 + y/o lady coming in next week .She tells me that her 5th toe was surgically removed in the 1960's .Since then she develops corns on the 4th toe.treated as and when.
She apparently has used her own bunched up felt to try to keep the pressure off.She is looking for a solution rather than come again therapy
Now I have successfully dealt with ortho-digital splints using otoform k to fill-in for absent 2/3/4 toes also for hammer/mallet toes etc..In my 22 years I cannot remember anyone with just 5th toe missing .Surgically altered ,toe bones removed .other cases of multiple excisions including 5th but not as a singular . Advice please.Would a silicone wedge anchored under 2/3/4th toes be wearable or would it dislodge them?
I have done a little googling but there are so many misdirections .Some mention about orthotic toe filler devices but looking at uk , langers and canonbury etc there is no mention.Should she see a pedorthist?.
Nice suggestions would be welcome;)
Thanks
