I have this strange case-study :

One of my patients, more then 20 years of severe RA, (multiple surgery, etc.), more then 15 years of DM with lots of complications died two months ago from “active euthanasia”. The pain, discomfort and complete loss of QOL became to dominant in the patients life.
Therefore her decision to start the procedure on “active euthanasia”
An ethical procedure of more then 2 years was followed by a lethal injection done by the GP.

Does anybody know if any "research" was done on “active euthanasia” and RA. I found something on suicide but not really what I’m looking for.

I have never heard of this but you raise some provoking thoughts.Here in the USA,euthanasia is banned so I am no expert on this.The way I see it,however,if someone is in a lot of pain and htey wish to die,I do not see the harm in allowing them that choice.Agreed,suicide is a coward's way out,however,that is best left to the individual.

 

"suicide, the coward's way out" .... maybe as far as some 'low-life' awaiting punishment for some horrific act but NEVER, NEVER, EVER as far as euthanasia of the chronically ill, mark c

 

You are correct,I am sorry I stated that folks who are chronically ill are cowards.I should know.My mother had kidney disease and was in constant pain before she died and maybe suicide would have been something she might have considered.

joris, mate, if you start a thread re euthanasia you must expect some emotions to be stirred, not sure in good old belgium but her in aus we can only dx/rx distally to the knee so i doubt if there's any material on it in pod journals, good luck

 

Joris,that was not my intent either!But this is a loaded topic and it simply is not realistic to expect a 100% dispassionate response.
