Sir Edmund Hiliary at age 88 has passed away. He will be remembered for being first to climb Mt Everest; his charity work in Nepal; being on the NZ $5 note (how many get afforded that tribute while they are still alive?).

They just don't make them like that anymore. I have his biography on the bookcase beside me...

    A true hero.

Apparently the sherpas who escourted the Hiliary party to the snow line were barefoot.

A true 'international' man of whom NZ has every right to be proud.

It's important not just to remember him but to support his legacy to us - the Sherpa and Gurkha people.
