    Hi All,

I have a patient who is a 19 y/o lady with Spina Bifida. She has a left foot drop and club foot deformity which has had a number of surgical corrections and is reasonably ok at the moment. Although she is quite mobile for someone with spina bifida and walks most places without crutches.

One of her big c/o at the moment is that when she puts her left foot in her shoe the toes tend to bend under her foot and can be very difficult for her to 1) feel that this has happened 2) stop it from happening. I was wondering if any one knows of any devices which can help with putting a foot like this into a shoe without the toes bending over. I was thinking of trying to knock up a strange shoe horn type device from poly prop, but just wondered if anything like this already exists?

    Kind Regards,

    Sam

    Hi Sam

Wouldn't it be easier to get shoes that undo further distally, or have a shoe-maker/cobbler fit a few more eyelets for the laces? Then she could simply place her foot in the shoe ? Just a thought - perhaps not aesthetically pleasing for her?

    Hi Sam,

Would there be any merit in fixing her up with one of those toe protector covers, the ones made in a silky material containing a thin layer of gel that are designed to cover all five digits?

I suppose there's always the semi-compressed white felt toe prop or a dorsiplantar device in white felt?
