Yes we can by training people in the community to assess feet and carry out basic foot care. We are doing it South Africa and have just opened our first clinic with 6 work stations. People cannot afford the fees of Podiatrist and there in no foot care available on national health as a result the alarming rate of amputations.
We have formed a Footcare Foundation in SA and we are hoping that it catches on globally.

 

Its both a little sad and disappointing that in Australia not all multidisciplinary foot care team (MFCT) dont include a Pedorthist, excluding RPH in Sydney and soon ACT health...just need Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide to catch up:rolleyes:

 

I am keen to increase neighbouring medial officers awareness of the statistical relationships between diabetes and a multidisciplinary approach to diabetic management when Podiatry is included.
To this end can anyone assist with compiling a list of statistics outcomes associated with Diabetes and Podiatry intervention specific to Australia?
