I have a favorite quote from the many discussions we have had here on Podiatry Arena in 2008.
Anyone else have a favorite quote from 2008??
When we produce a list of them, then we can vote for the top ten best quotes for 2008.
Should be fun!!;):santa::rolleyes:
My two favourites did not orginally appear on Podiatry Arena. There was this one from Dave Smith that was originally posted on OPF and Robert Issacs posted it in this thread:
Another quote that caught my eye, was also from Robert Issacs but was posted on TFS in this thread (it was a funny thread in which a poster who was banned from OPF came to TFS to complain about it):
What I like about the above posts (and Podiatry Arena can claim no credit for them), they do nicely sum up the sentiments that happen on forums.
I'm not sure Craigs nominations count as quotes exactly, but certainly i make Dave's one of the best posts of the year! Funny, relevant, easy to read and educational. All the things a good post could hope to be!
It is again a bit long but i would nominate Kevin for
Not so much for this precise post but for what it represents! The vital function of making us rein in our woolly generalisations and come back to proper reductionalist science. Its Friggin annoying sometimes (like that time i got dragged up on the fact that i could'nt say a brick weighed a kilo because kg is a measure of mass not weight:rolleyes:) but it is a vital guard against allowing our enthusiasm to take us into bad thinking. Its not always a popular job but it makes us better!
So i nominate this post and all the others it represents when somebody, usually kevin, often Dave Smith, Simon or Craig, Stands up and says of a post, comment, or research abstract "actually you can't say that!".
However if you wanted pithy one liners you'll find none better that national treasure DDT (except possibly Simon. Or Dave come to think of it.) For whom i nominate...
Are these for the the best 10 good quotable quotes or or for best 10 bad quotable quotes, being that quotable quotes are important even if they are good or bad. Do you get my quotable logic drift. It too too late to quote I'm confused and going to bed. Goodnight
As I am looking to work with those DPM's not able to practice Dr. Kirby's work, I thought his posting in regards to my work was the best quote of 2008:
“I do agree that your (Neoteric) approach of foot biomechanics may suit many podiatrists very well and may allow them to progress to a better understanding of foot and foot orthosis function, that they may not have been able to achieve otherwise”
Kevin Kirby
as a runner up, when I confronted Dr. Payne in real time about his editing skills (only), he came back with this mature and scientific quote as he locked the functional foot typing thread:
"I have better things to do that play silly games. This thread is locked as well".
Craig Payne
There's "half a dozen" 'veteran posters' and a few 'youngsters' whose posts I never miss, but for mine, overall quotable quoter, the English gent, you know the Bono fan.
Here's a word that is worth defining as taken from the recent post by "The PREDICTOR"
(to wit, once again, he has had another vision as my real name IS Denise????), Mark Russell.
IGNORANUS:
A person who as a voluptuous woman passes by doesn't set eyes on her derriere.
Twenty four hours to come up with that? Dennis, you should stick to writing about architecture - it's much more amusing! Actually, ignoranus wasn't a typo and it doesn't refer to any booty, pleasing or otherwise. It suggests you're not only stupid - but also an asshole.
Trust you'll be getting laid this weekend - so have a good one.
Thanks it's great to have been on the show, you make lovely couple BTW.
600+ posts in a year is pretty scary!
This time of year takes me back to my youth and Ronco adverts on the TV, actually all the dog's I've owned have had this on their Christmas list, I just never fancied loosing my arm in their jaws: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HJlAkmw3goQ
Post Christmas you may want to loose weight... "by eating sausages"- wow! silly cow. How fat were half of these bloaters before??? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1lR-c_Zz3Cc
When they say that they've lost pounds I suspect it is pounds sterling.
Have fun y'all, life's too short to be that serious.
BTW, I went to the Mark Russell school of charm and anything by him is up their on my list. His latest contribution in this thread made me quite literally piss myself- ****ing prostate.
Perhaps it’s just me, but does that disturbing cyber cackle make anyone else wonder what this guy has hidden in his basement? He punctuates nearly every post with this. I picture people on the street pointing and staring and making the finger circling the ear gesture…..
Which prompted two classic responses:

Isn't it interesting that the best quotes from Podiatry Arena all come in response to some of the more outlandish claims made by the individuals that trying to sell foot insole/orthosis products here?
From my viewpoint, it is not only quite entertaining at times but also an interesting study in human nature.
Now that we have a number of quotes to choose from, we should vote for the best quote on Podiatry Arena in 2008.
Maybe one of the Admins can do this by making up a list of quotes so that we all can vote for our favorite??
That's a good one, glad you reminded us of it.
Looks like you may have learned something after all by attending Dr. Spooner's School of Etiquette.:boxing::santa2:
Tis the only place to be. Have to say that graduation from the Spooner School of Diplomacy is the only qualification in town. Analyse, question, argue, ridicule (where necessary), probe, examine - all with the primary motive of progressive understanding - so that future generations comprehend the true nature of human biomechanics and its inherent deficiencies - and our contrbution to redress its infalabilities through positive intervention. Small building blocks that will, in time, serve us all well. How we do that productively is another question....but its fun to be part of the equation.
After nearly a month of voting (66 brave souls ventured forth to anonymously let their opinions be known), it appears that Mark Russell wins both the #1 and #2 quote awards for 2008.
Congratulations Mark!
Come on Craig, don't you have a bigger font for me to congralate Mark with.....????!!!!
The lesson from all of this.......?
If you want to sell your product or advertise your "patented" or "trademarked" ideas here on Podiatry Arena, be prepared to be the subject of the best quotes for the year.
And by the way, special thanks to Brian, Dennis and Ed for your inspiring thoughts that led to the creation of these most memorable and valuable quotes.
