Re: Blood flow restriction training
I've been hearing more about blood-flow restriction training, and I know a physio who uses it in his practice (claims to be able to achieve greater strength gains with lower loads). It is an interesting concept, but I have not yet heard anyone discuss the potential negative effects. It seems that by compromising venous return and creating an extremely high pressure gradient in venous vessel, one would expect to blow out the valves, which can obviously have some very negative consequences. Any thoughts? -

The focus on how it (blood flow restriction training) works seems to be totally directed towards total venous occlusion. I wonder if the short term relative arterial occlusion may have some positive effects? Personally I would instinctively be looking towards the changes in the arterial blood flow as being the major source of improvement in performance?
