Hi just have a couple of questions..

    (1) Are supine, suspension, hang / hanger technique all the same technique?

    (2) Which of the plaster of paris cast techniques are weightbearing and non weightbearing? Are any semiweight bearing?

    (3) Is a vacuum cast, a weightbearing / non weightbearing or semi bearing tecnhique (it must be non)?

    cheers

No. There are many methods for casting supine, of which the suspension is just one. Never heard of the hang technique!
They are weightbearing or semi-weightbearing when the foots on the ground!!
    Could be any of them.

Also the hanger technique is mentioned in:

    Foot Orthoses

and Other Forms of Conservative Foot Care, 2nd Edition

    by Thomas C. Michaud, DC

Chapter 6, it must be a different type of supine

    Thanks

I just checked my Michauds and you right he did mention - no one else uses the name and I doubt anyone actually uses the technique, especially in a supine position.

BTW - if this is for an UG assignment, then try and get away from the terminology of 'casting' - my preference is to now use 'negative model production', of which plaster casts is just one way - there are now the scans (optical and digital), foam boxes and 'pins' as many different methods of getting negative models of the foot.

Also what is the direct pressure technique (is it a form of supine or prone)?
