Hey all, I'm a 3rd Year Podiatry Student in Australia, and currently writing an essay on the differentiation between Charcot and Osteomyelitis.

Could someone point me in the right direction in terms of articles (2009 - 2012 if possible) on how to clinically assess both CF and osteo. in terms of history and physical assessment? I'm struggling to find articles that properly explain how a history and physical exam can differentiate CF and osteo from each other.

I would do a search on PubMed and Google Scholar, then follow the references. There is no quick way to do this, although I have to say it's a fair bit easier doing a lit search with a computer and the internet.

Many years ago a lit search was done in the library, using available books, journals, and microfiche (you then ordered up your papers through inter-library loans).

Good topic for an essay - your lecturers are to be applauded.

or start with key authors in the area such as Ben Lipsky and Tony Berendt for osteomyelitis and William Jeffcoate for Charcot.
My advice would be to try and find a systematic review of the literature in each area and that would give you a starting block re understanding the subject area and also some more key search terms.
