    Just a quick question.

I am fitting out new clinic rooms for a general podiatry practice and i am wondering if there are any special requirements for flooring? At this stage i am looking at vinly and not sure if i need to go to the expense of antistatic.

    Thanks

I think it's been shown that you have fewer problems with dust in air currents if you use carpet rather than vinyl.

The Australian Podiatry Association Infection Control Protocol states that vinyl (or non-porous) floor covering is recommended to comply with infection control standards... Carpet is not able to be disinfected! :dizzy:

Recently lookihng at "commercial" wet area carpet........an Aussie product that from memory is antifungal!? Would need to go back and check it out further if you were interested for areas outside clinical room? Not sure if this helps. cheers

    Mark,

I recently fit out a pretty large practice. The flooring we used is Sheeted Vinyl which is coved up the walls about 100mm. All of our cabinetry is fixed to the floor and backing walls so that the sheeted vinyl can be coved up all corners throughout the practice. This makes infection control easy and cleaning a breeze. This stuff in really thick too which makes it tough. I had standard vinyl previously and we tore it to shreds with the wheels on our chairs. This is the stuff they use in hospitals.

If you have not already started the fit out, find a good shop fitting company to do the whole job. They will get a designer to help you lay it out and they will do everything from walls, floors, sinks, cabinetry, windows, lighting the whole thing for a set quoted price.

If you are interested in a shop fitting company name, just let me know.

    Cheers
    Trent

There is a rating of R10 on some commercial vinyls that are non slip rated which is desirable for insurance reasons if someone has a fall. Get a few quotes,

There is an R10 rating on some commercial vinyls for non-slip, desirable for insurance reasons. Get a few quotes, I've had two, one $11K AND ONE $6K for the same stuff over the same floor area.....and the 100mm up the walls is a good idea.
