A while ago a fellow podiatrist mentioned that "latest thinking" was that the common over the counter antibiotic agent cloramphenicol (which is used in eye drop preparations for conjunctivitis etc.) can be used topically on infected ingrown toenails.

Has any body else heard this? I have tried to research a little online to investigate any evidence but thusfar have found nothing at all.
