If I am reading this correctly, it is saying that concussion like symptoms occur in the general public, and that heavy exercise can exacerbate the problem..hmmm..

Abstract
Concussion is a common injury in collision sports and is evidenced by a variety of signs and symptoms. The recording of neurological symptoms is an important component of screening for a concussion and in return-to-play decisions. However similar symptoms are prevalent in the general population and are reported to be associated with participation in physical activities. The purpose of this study was to document the neurological symptoms reported by healthy individuals following controlled bouts of exercise. A crossover randomised design with 2 levels of exercise intensity, moderate intensity and high intensity, each of 15min duration was used. Participants completed a standardised postconcussion symptom checklist prior to exercise (pre), immediately following exercise (post-1) and again after 15 min of rest (post-2). 60 participants were recruited into the study. A summed symptom score was calculated and analysed with a 2-way repeated measures ANOVA procedure. The intensityxtime interaction (F(2,118)=23.94, p<0.001) demonstrated a significant increase in symptom scores for the high intensity condition immediately following exercise (p<0.001). Although the moderate intensity showed a similar trend this was not significant. These findings suggest that sports medicine professionals need to be aware of the effect of exercise on symptom reporting when assessing and in making return-to-play decisions.
Does exercise evoke neurological symptoms in healthy subjects?

Re: An interesting paper from my old mate Paul McCrory
The fact that concussion symptomatology had been noted in the general public who had reported no head trauma highlighted the need to investigate why this was so. This doesn't mean that intense exercise causes concussion but rather concussion like symptoms which may confuse or exacerbate the clinical diagnosis of concussion of keen or professional sportsmen who will also be participating in high level exercise.

Re: An interesting paper from my old mate Paul McCrory
I just got a snarky anonymous "whats this got to do with podiatry" message via the contact us form about this thread. Normally I just ignore these sorts of messages. However, today I am in the mood to respond, so rather than respond privately, I will post it here.
What has concussion got to do with Podiatry?
Simple:
Podiatrists work in multidisciplinary teams in sports medicine. Concussion is a hot topic in these environments and is a significant public health issue (just read above to see how significant). Everyone involved in sports medicine (and health care in general) needs to take an interest in and be active in public health issues. We need to be cognizant of all the issues to be a part of the conversation and addressing these public health issues --> become part of the solution as individuals. Its that simple. Its relevant ... and besides, if you don't agree, just don't bother reading the updates that get posted in this thread. -

This upcoming movie with Will Smith is getting a bit of buzz:
Concussion (2015 film)
2015 film by Peter LandesmanConcussion is a 2015 American biographical sports drama film written and directed by Peter Landesman, based on the exposé "Game Brain" by Jeanne Marie Laskas, published in 2009 by GQ magazine.[6] Set during the 2000s, the film stars Will Smith as Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist who fights against the National Football League trying to suppress his research on chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) brain degeneration suffered by professional football players.
The film premiered at AFI Fest on November 11, 2015 and was released by Columbia Pictures on December 25, 2015. The film grossed $48 million worldwide and received mixed reviews, although Smith earned a Golden Globe nomination.
