I'm new to the Forum. I'm a Chiropodist in Northern Ontario and I get to deal with the frustrations of having advanced knowledge and training, but being able to carry out only a partial scope of practice. I've had difficulty with recruiting my local MDs to provide proper advanced treatment of ischemia, infection and osteomyelitis in my wound patients. :bash:

Sometimes the MDs refuse to prescribe orals early enough, refuse to refer on to vascular (or cancel appointments I've practically groveled for!!), or the patient gets to me with osteo, but the docs insist there is no infection. Hello, green???
Some have advised my patients to soak in bleach water, use hygeol, or acticoat.

If I'm allowed to treat wounds, I should be allowed to do everything. X-rays, oral antibiotics, bone scans, C&S etc, and not have to rely on people who can't tell the difference between an ischemia related ulcer and a pressure related ulcer, and have no clue about mixed etiology or factors that contribute to non-healing.

You may find an ongoing battle to prove your expertise. I would humbly suggest you offer your local MDs a presentation to enhance their knowledge of your skills.

Only a suggestion & one which you may have already tried but it is just a thought if you haven't.

You could always repost your problem in the USA forum to see if more constructive answers are available.
