I fell down a flight of stairs two years ago and sprained my ankle. I had swelling in the arch of my foot that never went away and a dull nagging pain that never went away, but it never bothered me that much. Well, about two months ago my foot and ankle started hurting to the point where i could hardly bear to walk or drive!!!! I am on my feet all day as I work in outside sales. I lift a lot and I drive a lot. My symptoms are, swelling, burning shooting pain in the inside arch of my foot, ankle, shooting through my big toe, also on the outer ankle, outer side of my foot through my pinky toe. The pain is awful, the burning pain is awful. This pain also is radiating through my calf. I half done stretching and I have had my back checked out to make sure it is not my back being that I have had prior back surgery 2 years ago. My MRI results are as follows:
Peroneus longus tenosynovitis
Mild osteoarthritis of the first metarsophalangeal joint with partial plantar plate tearing
synovitis involving the flexor hallucis tendon with dissection of fluid up along the myotendinous junction of the flexor hallucis longus, distal tendon and distal muscle myotendinous group
The first doctor told me I had plantar fasciatis and made custom orthotics. Shot me up with Cortisone. The orthodics have done nothing. He said my MRI showed nothing. He did not know that I got a copy of the MRI. My dad is a doctor so I always get copies of the MRI. I did not questions him, I simply never went back and asked around town and found someone with a good reputation.
Here is where I am at with the second doc who I believe is very good, but I am still in a lot of pain! First visit, he thinks I have tarsal tunnel syndrom. MRI shows a ton of swelling. Put me in a walking boot to stabilize and get me off foot, off work. Shot me up. Foot did not burn as much, still hurt.
Second visit, thought he figured it out, tarsi tunnel this time? stabilized still, come back in 2 and 1/2 weeks.
Third visit today. I am a mystery because i have pain in two locations on my foot not just one. The second visit he said if i was not better he would go in and look around and clean me up. This time he said no way because he has no idea what he would be looking for. He want me out of the boot, physical therapy which i totally agree with, see me in 6 weeks, repeat mri to make sure nothing has changed. Mind you i refused pain medication from him. That is the deal. This is my foot and we walk on our feet!!! I need to get better! I am a 37 year old mother of an active 4 year old. I am healthy, not overweight, 5'5 114 pounds, so no extra weight on my feet. Any ideas???? What should I do????? I need to be able to walk without pain and figure out what is going on......anything, anyone?
