Hi my name is Nancy and I am 23 years old. I am currently working as a full time practice nurse in sydney west. I am thinking of studying podiatry next year to further challenge myself. I love working in the private setting but unsure how the whole system works. Do podiatrist have their own provider numbers ? Do you have to have experience in hospitals prior to working in the private setting like nursing ? Please can someone just tell me abit more about working as a podiatrist .

Hi Nancy all allied health workers need a provider number if they are going to work in private practice. Uni courses are 4 years with clinical placements within Uni as well as external throughout the course.

There are many threads that you can search for further information.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. The course I was looking at is a newly introduced Masters degree in podiatric medicine with university of western sydney 2 years duration. I was also wondering is there any particular requirement to obtaining a provider number after graduating e.g. another course completion or numbers of years experience required before working in a private practice.
