I'm working my way through what seem to be the relevent posts but thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm 17 male and have been looking at a health care career. I have considered Dentistry however my recent AS results suggest that I would perhaps struggle to get in (I am in B/C territory in Biology/Chemistry/Maths /Physics) so I am considering Podiatry.

The work experience I did with Dentistry (2 Weeks) will obviously need redoing at a suitable Podiatry practice/hospital so I am in the process of trying to sort that.

At the moment out of the 13 (you see I have done a bit of research ;)) institutions offering BSc I am thinking about:-

Huddersfield - near home, perhaps too near home.
Salford - pro good reputation? con in Salford
Durham - I can't find out much about this as yet
Northampton - about 100 miles away, seems ok
Brighton/Southampton/Plymouth/Cardiff - long way but course(s) look ok

I am trying to arrange open day vists for Sept/Oct

I don't fancy London/Birmingham and the Scottish Unis are 4 years however my elder brother is at Heriot-Watt so I know Edinburgh reasonably well.

I will repost this in the appropriate forum so if anyone has any advice regarding any of the institutions/courses I'd appeciate the feedback.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi & :welcome: aboard,

As for Hudds being too near home! Don't knock it. It is the cheaper option. Their food, washing facilities etc. etc....

Good luck regardless of your final decision.

Kindest regards & good luck in your studies.

    Mandy.

    PS.
Having only studied at Huddersfield I can only give my review on there. Great lecturers, very supportive throughout the course. Yes you may have to wear white high heels for 3 years but I'm sure you can handle it. ;) Learning to scrape your knuckles (never met any knuckle scrapers in my time there but then I am ancient & rarely 'did' town').

Hi! I am a 17 y/o Female and I too am considering Podiatry as a career but sadly due to not-so-good AS results, I'm having to retake the year. I did take Physics,Chemistry, Biology & German but I have been advised to take BTEC Applied Science in Biology, Psychology, Sociology & German. I have been assured that the Unis will accept the BTEC in place of a-level Biology, if I get distinction. I too am looking at Huddersfield as a strong possibility of Uni choice, but since I live in London it seems worlds away! The University Of East London would be ideal but if I have to go around the country, I'd do that because it seems such a promising career, with many different possibilities. Nice to know I'm not the only person my age who is considering a career in Podiatry. =D
