    I for one do not see the advantage of using an arthroscope versus open incision for a joint as small as an IPJ. The entire reason scopes are used is because they are less invasive than an open incision, thus, hopefully, cause less pain and shorter postoperative times.

    Even with the smallest of scopes, two separate incisions would still be required and motions of the scope and shavers would still cause trauma to the surrounding tissue.

    A small incision with proper soft tissue handling and good visualization would, in my opinion, be preferable to an arthroscope for an IPJ (finger or toe).
