I had the joy of attending one of their "educational events" around 5 years ago on behalf of my professional body.

Some of the delegates asked exactly the questions you stated and they didnt answer them directly.

i asked the following questions and got the responses stated from the presenter:

1. How can a pressure scan from a pressure plate determine arch height or contour? Answer: our database works this out from the scan!!!

2. How can the pressure scan determine subtalar joint axis position, calculate moments or determine STJ position?
Answer: Our highly professional skilled staff work this out so you dont need to!!!

3. If your system/process prescribes me an insole and i then stand on the insole on the plate, or walk on the plate with insoles in my shoes does the system tell me my prescription is correct or does it prescribe another insole?
Answer: ummm, errrrr, we will discuss that later.

The Orthotic Group along with their GaitScan system is a BS riddled means to get orthotics from. It (the system) is targeted towards those ignorant of the issues involved i.e. your standard Chiro.... which stands to reason being that I believe they are a Chiro. based company... which is similar to another Chiro. based company - Foot Levelers (an even more a B.S riddled 'orthotic'/insole company - albeit, said to be one of the biggest dispensers in the world!).

Problems with The Orthotic Group/GaitScan system have already been raised above i.e. that 2-d pressure pad/map... that ILA (arch surface) can be 1mm, 8mm or 15mm from the surface of the pad... & the system (& TOG) have no way of distinguishing (& subsequently interpreting) such.

BTW... those who use their system are probably getting a generic (prefab) arch shell... admitted by one of their staff after I pushed for answers. He wouldn't admit how many cases would be issued a generic/prefab but he did say it happens. Hence you are certainly not getting a custom device if relying on the GaitScan scan alone (which should stand to reason)... & from my experience you may not be getting a custom device (which is the practitioner/client's intention/expectation) when they send in a cast of sorts to the company.

The above TOG staff member also stated that the reason Podiatrists have a lesser percentage of satisfactory results from their system/orthotics is because Podiatrists would see more complicated/problematic cases than their Chiro. counterparts... :wacko:
