Does anyone know the cause of a lateral drift of the 3rd phalange from the 2nd on both feet? Plantarflexed metatarsal head and no signs of plantar plate tear. Possibly hereditary.

I see it in Plantar Plate Tear patients and Morton Neuroma Patients always thought it was something to do with nerve function being affected in those patients.

    This is called Sullivans sign.

Indicates plantar plate tear on the opposite side of the relevant joint to the direction of subluxation.
