I am a diabetic and my podiatrist recommends that I also have a nerve biopsy. I am concerned about the healing of the wound. The podiatrist explained the procedure to me -- one that has been around for at least 4 years. He said, he will numb the area (using a needle and anesthetic) and make a small incision on the outside of each leg near the ankle and remove a few nerve endings. He says the incision is a like a hole puncture and will heal quickly. Only complications he has encountered were with 5 patients where the small incision become infected. Well, even the thought of using a needle to numb and a knife to make an incision made me apprehensible. And, how will this procedure affect the nerves? The purpose of the nerve biopsy is to prevent further numbness in my toes and advanced neuropathy.

I need some one to enlighten me on this procedure.
