NHS workers in assault probe

POLICE are investigating an alleged assault involving two NHS workers at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, it has emerged.

Officers were called when a fight broke out between a man from the West Norfolk Primary Care Trust's chiropodists service and an accident and emergency worker.
During the struggle, which happened in the A&E department, police were forced to spray one member of staff with CS gas to subdue him.
The PCT worker is believed to have been accompanying his wife to the hospital for treatment for a suspected miscarriage at the time of the incident last month.
Bosses at the PCT and the QEH are now at loggerheads over whether action should be taken against the chiropodist.
An NHS spokesman said: "Both organisations are in a difficult position.
"The hospital trust feels obliged to honour its NHS Zero Tolerance policy.
"If we are prepared to take action against members of the public we should also take action against members of staff.
"But the PCT says it won't take any action until the police investigation is complete."
A police spokesman said a man in his 20s from the Lynn area has been questioned in relation to the incident and bailed to return to Lynn police station on Wednesday.

Without wishing to pass comment on the alleged details of this report, clearly this young couple need the support of fellow colleagues.

My thoughts, compassion and heatfelt sympathy are with them both at this a most testing time in their relationship.
