Case: 23 year old female with long-standing onychogryphosis of both hallux nails requesting TNA
Question: Would you phenolise the matrix or allow nails to grow back?
What is the incidence of recurrence/healthy new nail growth?

It will grow back just as bad or worse if you do not phenolise.

    Healthy new growth: 0%

Thanks Craig. Have any studies been done to support this, do you know?

Onychogryphosis occurs due to damage to the growing area of the nail. Removing a nail does not fix that damage and will usually make it worse due to the trauma to the avulsion.
