Orthotics with first ray cut out

Hi everybody!
I saw sometimes use orthotics having a shell without the first ray part (like in the attachment).

Could you all help me finding who invented this kind of orthoses?
Is there any articles talkin about that?

There are not any articles I know of that study outcomes with first ray cutouts. Many of the articles by H. Dananberg mention things like cutouts used for orthotic, but don't go into it very much. I know of three ways to make cutouts (traditional, long, and bidirectional), but you will get different answers from different orthotic labs. Bruce Williams has an excellent description for the bidirectional cutout in a podiatry arena thread. These cutouts are used often with kinetic wedge or reverse morton extension for treatment of functional hallux limitus.

Some podiatrists argue the cutout is not necessary if patient is casted with great toe in maximum dorsiflexion combined with minimum arch fill. Leaving the 1st met head groove intact and blancing just 2-5 on the orthotic positive is another option that I tried a few times in my lab.

Is there any articles talkin about that?
