Hi, I'm new to the private practice system, having come from the NHS and the Australian Government system. Please could someone let me know how the pay scales and percentages of pay work within the private system. Thanks, Shrub:morning:

The award rates of pay and conditions for the private sector are really very poor. The base pay scale is around $50K, hence everyone in the private sector will have negotiated something better than this. There will be variations as to whether you are employed or working as a sub contractor, and the % split will also vary depending on the type of work you do etc.

You may find you negotiate a base rate with a % split either on top, or once a certain number of patients/income has been brought in.

Hi thanks to both of you for your info. I qualified in Edinburgh, UK June 2005 and have always worked in the NHS, until I came to Australia in 2009 Nov to work in the government health system in SA. Sue
