Hello fellow members,

I have just started my PhD through the UWA Podiatric Medicine Unit and WAAPA on the biomechanics of ballet dancers focusing on the foot and ankle, especially in motion capture.

Is there anyone else with interest in this area? as I would love to chat about it.

I would start by a trip down Hackett Drive to Anatomy and Human Biology, introduce yourself to Nick Milne and tell him I sent you (it may cost you a pint of Guinness). What you need to start with is a thorough grounding in modern shape analysis; you need to have a firm grasp of both conventional morphometrics - Principal components analysis and canonical variates analysis, the the way more modern so-called geometric morphometrics with its procrustes, finite elements and thin-plate splines. Then you need to talk to the guys further down the campus at human movement - but sadly I am out of date with the staff now after 19 years away. Rob (feel free to PM me)

I do see quite a few dancers, from young to professional. Their needs & dance requirements are quite different to the average foot. Happy to chat.
