I found out something that I thought was really interesting and peculiar today. According to my Department head, "1-2year podiatrist make about 63K". I'm not all about money, but this seems a strangely low, especially with all the school work required (undergrad, D.P.M., and residency). Does anyone know the average salary of a Podiatrists (speaking from experience)?

Most countries will have have workforce data available from a Bureau of Statistics of some variation. Best look there because the responses will vary broadly esp. related to gender, hours worked, etc.

I think that you will find this forum biased with regards to your query.

My opinion is that their dictums are that income, entrepeneurship, patenting, trademarking for the purposes of profit is not what a Podiatrist should be thinking about on any level (or even consider).

They equate income inversely to ones desire and ability to deliver patient care???????

Even though they all have families, income drive, a need to be businessmen in practice and I assume a desire to be properly recompensed for their time, services and skill level, they will label you money hungry and suggest another profession (like finance) for you.

In reality, I passionately believe that USA Podiatry is wide open for success IN ALL FACETS OF PRACTICE.

Aging population, diabetes, increased exercise in our lives, excellent preparatory education and greater acceptance (and value that you add) by the medical community and the foot suffering public and the small numbers of DPM's in America all point to upward mobility for young podiatrists.

If you love people, if you are dedicated to hard work, if you want to make a comfortable living for 20-30 years and if you adjust your livestyle to include a 10% savings every year in practice, you will find podiatry a great profession.

I believe the annual survey posted in Podiatry Management Magazine, is in the area of $135,000.
I think you can probably search the archives and get a more accurate figure but I am pretty certain that has been about the average the past few years.
However, did you mean in the first or second year of practice.
Our Residents recieve (3rd year) in the vicinity of $45,000.00
