Hi all,
We are currently in the process of incorporating a CADCAM system into our clinic for orthotic manufacture. Does anyone know of any suppliers of the blanks of poly and eva used to mill the orthotics from? Any recommendations as to one product over another?

Thanks for the replies all, it is very much appreciated. Looking at the iqube scanner, delcam system coupled with a roland miller. Expensive, i know, but wanted a system we could build on if required to. Going to be interesting in the beginning i think, but i am looking forward to a new challenge.

 

One aspect you may want to consider is the environmental impact of using CAD/CAM manufacturing systems. A couple of years age my former employer wanted to assess the carbon footprint impact of using Polypropylene blocks to mill foot orthoses. Less than 4% of the Polypropylene we purchased for CAD/CAM production ended up in patients shoes. (96% waste rate) Although we were the largest producer of foot orthoses in the country we couldn't find any one interested in recycling the scrap. The recycle people wanted at least a tonne of material to make a collection worthwhile and a tonne of scrap polypropylene blocks takes up alot of space. EVA dust is also a very dangerous stuff, make sure all your extraction system is up to scratch and also make sure you extractor's earthed to avoid static sparking. An EVA dust fire is something I don't want to see again.
