What effect does plaster casting have on ZOOS postop?

  3. The ZOOS of which tissue, Dennis?

One would assume all tissues that would otherwise be functioning if not immobilized in the cast.

In return, I ask, what if theoretically, we had the ability to place the operated foot into a more predetermined "Optimal" functional position and allowed the operated foot to function gingerly, in an externally immobilizing bandage, lets say an Unna Boot instead of a SLWC?

What about the ZOOS of the tissues then?

  5. The effects of immobilization are well documented within the literature. I suggest you read Soderberg G.L. Kinesiology: Application to Pathological Motion. Williams and Wilkins: Chapter 5.

  7. If you immobilize the tissue you will get tissue atrophy, this will reduce the ZOOS, irrespective of the position you immobilize it in. Loading should remain within the ZOOS while the injury heals- read and understand: http://ptjournal.apta.org/content/82/4/383.full.pdf. If you want to know the specific effects of immobilzation on specific tissues read Soderberg as I suggested, you idiotic little man.
