The Union Haddiema Maghqudin has lifted directives with immediate effect from the podiatry services. An agreement was reached between the Department of Health and UHM today after a series of meetings at the HR directorate.

This agreement will ensure that the best quality of service will be provided to patients requiring podiatry services across the health sector.

‘New podiatrists in dark over jobs’

New podiatry graduates are still in the dark as to when they will be recruited within the government health service, according to the Association of Podiatrists of Malta.
“Unfortunately, due to precarious staffing levels, many podiatry services are running on skeleton staff and the waiting lists across health centres have increased substantially, up by 30 per cent in this past year alone, while one or two clinical sessions are cancelled on a daily basis,” the association said.

Unqualified individuals performing medical foot care treatments

A number of unqualified people are promoting and conducting foot health care services, the Association of Podiatrists of Malta (APM) said today.
It urged people to be cautious about promotional material sent by email or found on the internet and social media whereby non-qualified persons are promoting medical services for the treatment of a wide range of foot problems. These range from the removal of corns and calluses to treatment of abnormal foot and lower limb alignment through orthotics (medical shoe inserts).
"The APM wishes to inform the public to exercise caution and is urged to only seek professional advice from appropriately accredited individuals. Podiatrists (commonly referred to in Malta as Podologist or Podjatra’) should bear the title “SRPod” indicating he/she is state registered. Patients’ have the legal right to request evidence of state registration and refuse treatment if such evidence is not provided," the association said.
