    Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I would like to welcome you to the Singapore Podiatry Symposium 2009 (SPS 2009) which will be held at Orchard Hotel from the 28 to 30 August 2009. For those of you who attended our symposium last year, I would like to thank you sincerely and hope you would extend your continued support.

With Singapore being the host for international sports events such as the inaugural Youth Olympic Games 2010, Asian Youth Game, Standard Chartered Marathon and many more, we should place more focus on the athletes, both the amateurs and elites. With that in mind, the theme for this year’s Symposium is Feet for Life, with focus on Sports and Biomechanics.

This is the 2nd year that Singapore Footcare Centre, a member of the National Healthcare Group (NHG), is organising this Symposium. The aim for this event is to allow podiatrists, clinicians, physiotherapists, healthcare professionals, and sports personnel around the region and beyond, to be updated on the latest evidence and teaching in footcare; and as a platform for sharing of knowledge and best practices.

We are honoured to have Mr Trevor Prior as our distinguished overseas speaker this year. Mr Prior is a consultant podiatric surgeon at the Homerton University Hospital, UK. His particular areas of interest are foot surgery, sports injuries, biomechanics / gait analysis, orthoses and diabetic foot complications, lecturing both nationally and internationally.

Mr Prior will also be conducting the post conference workshop that will include hands on approach to the lower limb assessment. Besides Mr Prior, we have also lined up other speakers who are experts in their field of practice; orthopaedic consultant, paediatric neurologist consultant, podiatrists, physiotherapist, exercise specialist and a Chinese physician to share their expertise over the two day event.

We hope SPS 2009 will undoubtedly create new learning experiences, knowledge and skills and fostering new networks and friendship for our delegates, colleagues and friends.

I look forward to welcoming you at SPS 2009!

    Kin Ismail
