Please does anyone know how to remove a silver nitrate stain on a white bench top preferably without creating another stain!!

 

Longshot but worth a try...i find eucalyptus good for removing stains!!! give it a go, wont do any harm..let us know if it works

 

Hiya, many thanks for that. I have now found a cure for my own problem. Flash spray with bleach. Leave on for 1 hour and wipe away with kitchen roll. Bench top has come up like brand new with no signs whatsoever of the silver nitrate stain. Definitely recommended!!

I have never tried equlyptos (excuse spelling) but will certainly bear in mind for any further probs.

 

Good stuff!! Next time out of interest just try it and see if it works!! Someone told me about it and its great...i use it on the bath when the kids get it dirty with their mucky hands..it even removes biro!! As with bleach, ive used the neat stuff to remove tumreric stains from my worktops!!!

 

Basic Chemistry Folks

To remove Silver Nitrate Stain

Apply Iodine Fortis ( strong iodine solution) ( the old fashioned iodine not the tamed type) this will turn it brown (DO NOT PANIC)
leave this for a few minutes, then apply 20 Vols hydrogen Peroxide
wait, wait, slowly it bleaches out the residue

Personally I found Cif to be very effective when a child rubbed their foot along my new chair when silver nitrate had just been applied. I thought I may have to recover, but Cif worked great!
