recently qualified and have a great interest in sport science as well as podiatry and also have a degree in sports science and would love to combine the two in some way. what sort of avenues are available to me with regards to employment etc? does anyone here have knowledge on the prospects of gaining employment with sports companies or sports teams using biomechanics or even being involved with research in sports shoes etc?

:welcome: what Country are you in ?

1st lots have the dream few make it a real - hard work, contacts and very good knowledge of biomechancis and treatment programs will be the key.
I would suggest working and gaining greater knowledge for a while and trying meet the right people.

The world you want to enter is a lot of who you know

Im in england, would love to stay here but would also be very interested in working abroad at some point. It may sound cheeky but how does one go about making these contacts? I imagine attending several conferences and workshops would allow access to people who may help. Contacting companies looking for work experience etc?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Networking is hugely important & success initially may well be down to lots of leg work on your part. Making the initial contact is relatively easy. Email companies that interest you. Sell yourself to them with enthusiasm for their particular product if it is a manufacturing company you are aiming at eg: Nike. Even if you are not initially seeking employment with a firm request information & perhaps the opportunity to visit.

If you wish to work directly with elite athletes next year could be a very exciting time to network in the UK. Olympics 2012 (Pod' A. thread from last year).

As you mentioned previously, conferences may also assist greatly in introducing yourself to those who may already be successful sports podiatry specialists).
